FTA appoints new Head of Research

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has appointed Dr Sharon Ryan as Head of Research at its headquarters in Tunbridge Wells.
Dr Ryan will report to FTA’s General Manager – Information, Simon Chapman.
Dr Ryan’s appointment will cover the commissioning and production of both regular FTA data and surveys, including the Guide to Distribution Costs and the Quarterly Transport Activ ity Survey, together with a range of specialist and original research work.
Simon Chapman commented: ‘This new post will provide FTA with the resource to develop existing information services and, in addition, to carry out the necessary in-depth analysis of industry trends, freight costs and new legislation, which we need in order to underpin our policy and campaigning work.
“The economic squeeze means that managers need up to date information on cost factors affecting their businesses and of upcoming changes, in order to best manage their operation in the most economic and efficient fashion. FTA information services are
designed to provide such support and the expansion of our staff resource in this area is a sign of our commitment to aiding our members.”
Dr Ryan obtained her PhD in Business (Organisational Psychology) from Dublin City University and she also has an MSc in Psychology, and a Diploma in Statistics from Trinity College, Dublin together with a BA in Psychology fromUniversity College, Dublin. She has joined FTA from her role as a research adviser at the University of Greenwich, following work at the Dublin Institute of Technology and Dublin City University.
