Palletways invests in new network for Germany

The Palletways Group, Europe’s fastest growing provider of express palletised freight services, has announced that it is to launch a new domestic network to serve Germany, which enjoyed its strongest economic expansion in two decades last year. The development also forms part of the Group’s strategy to open up new business opportunities in Eastern Europe.

The Palletways Group has announced its biggest ever investment in EuropeThe Group is to invest over five million euros in developing and rolling out the network, which will be centred on a 7,000 sq metre hub in Homberg, Germany.  Commencing operation in early May 2011, it will be the latest addition to Palletways existing networks in Europe, which currently serve the Benelux countries, Italy, Portugal, Spain, UK and Ireland.  The Group’s pan-European network also services France and Denmark.

The hub facility will have capacity for up to 6,000 pallets per night and the network will start with circa 35 depots across Germany.  The hub, together with the commercial offices in Dusseldorf, will commence operation with 30 employees, who will manage customer services, hub operations and transport management of the network.

The German operation will mirror Palletways’ existing networks whereby member companies – all independent transport companies – share each others’ resources to deliver customers goods faster and more cost effectively to market than ever before via a central hub facility.

The German network will also be integrated with Palletways existing operations, supported by the company’s pan-European IT infrastructure, thereby enabling customers to take advantage of a Europe-wide delivery service.

James Wilson, Chief Executive of Palletways Group, said: “Our significant investment in creating a domestic network in Germany will enable us to fully exploit business opportunities in Europe’s largest economy.  Germany is also the world’s second biggest exporter after China and we are ideally placed to support this growth in the future by providing a pan-European delivery service for German companies.

“Our strategically placed hub in central Germany, will also enable us to provide future express delivery services in Eastern Europe, opening up new marketplaces and additional revenues for the Group.”
